The Big Fig Story
[Our Story]
Founded by two brothers, Big Fig began with a simple vision: connect people to nature, minimalism and eco-friendly living–without giving up luxury and comfort.

Big Fig started on the family farm, named after the century-old fig tree towering over our workshop.

That setting shaped how we approach our builds: combining the simplicity and calmness of nature with luxury-driven quality craftsmanship.
For you, it means your tiny home isn’t just another build, but a thoughtfully designed space made with eco-conscious choices and the care of a family business you can trust.
Our mission is to build boutique tiny homes that connect people to nature while delivering the comfort, calmness, and craftsmanship of true luxury living.

Guiding you step-by-step so the process is clear and stress-free
Every detail matters to us. From the design and structure to materials and finish
Eco-conscious choices are woven into every design and build
As a family business, each home is built with the same integrity we’d put into our own
Behind every Big Fig Tiny Home is a small, dedicated team of builders and partners who care about quality, detail, and doing things right.

Joel Atkins
Founder/Builder
With a background in high-end residential construction, Joel brings craftsmanship and clarity to every Big Fig project. He leads with a hands-on approach, ensuring every home is built with care and precision.

Rob
Workshop Lead/Builder
The bloke with every tool known to man. Rob is our Leading Hand and keeps the workshop running day to day. With more than 20 years in the trade, he brings a huge depth of experience and a real passion for the craft.

Nathan
Tradesmen Carpenter
Chicken Joe was our very first hire and has been with Big Fig ever since. Now a solid carpenter in the workshop, he continues to develop his craft. When he’s not building Tiny Homes, he’s carving up on the bodyboard along the east coast.

Zeb
Tradesmen Carpenter
Zeb has been part of the Big Fig team for over a year. An experienced carpenter who loves his trade, he brings strong energy and a real passion for building to the workshop. Outside of work, he coaches a local footy side, helping lead them to the top step in 2025.

Brooke
Administration
Not in the workshop, but still getting her hands dirty behind the scenes. Brooke keeps the Big Fig team organised, helping manage enquiries and making sure projects stay on track from start to finish.
